| Description: |
The firing mechanism for a clockwork pistol is similar to that of the Spring Gun: a compressed high-tension spring is released when the trigger is pulled, launching a projectile. The pistol, built by a gifted tinker, has an intricate system of internal gears operated by an external crank, which allows the spring to be compressed more quickly and with much less physical strength on the part of the operator. Since projectiles are not propelled by an explosive, the weapon can be made of lighter, less durable metal than is used in a standard firearm without risk of bursting the barrel. The clockwork pistol can fire pointed darts fitted to barrel size or metal or stone pellets. It must be cranked to prime the spring after each shot. |
